Saturday, Sept. 10 - Malta

Early breakfast at hotel. A huge spread, right down to the Mimosas. Luggage into bus and off at 9:00 for a drive around the walls of Valetta. We were accompanied throughout the day with a Maltese named Claude. Very British. We stopped at the end of the peninsula to attend a showing of "The Malta Experience", a big screen movie about Malta that was very good. Afterwards we took a look at the harbor and I took a few more photos of it.

Then we went to he southwest end of Malta to see the antiquities at Hagar Qim. The overviews are taken from the Internet. This is an amazing site, one of the best preserved, and oldest, free standing stone structures in the world. One thinks of Stonehenge and other megalithic sites. This one was begun about 3000 BCE and contains stones weighing as much as 20 tons.
